Five Common Types of Product Packaging Used by Businesses

Packaging tends to play an important role in the expected value of products. Although the importance of packaging has increased due to the large expansion of e-commerce businesses, many old methods and types of packaging are still commonly used. The choices for packaging and boxing are hard to select for your products. Hence, there are many choices to choose from. One such option is a package with a corrugated box. In order to improve the buyer’s experience several different kinds of packaging options can be used.

1. Packaging with Rigid Boxes

Have you seen how an iPhone is packed in a box? The box which an iPhone comes in is made from cardboard. It is also called a ‘rigid box’. This kind of packaging is not only used by Apple but many exclusive small products including jewellery, fashion accessories, and watches come with a similar style of packaging. It looks like a gift box that includes multiple forms of packaging. The rigid box is made from extremely condensed paperboard, and the thickness of this sheet is 4 times higher than that used in typical folding cartons (that is a very low weight box).

2. Packaging with Paperboard Boxes

Although paperboard is a strong and hard paper-based material, it is very lightweight. The paperboard can be cut without any difficulty and can be customized into different shapes and structures. Customized packaging benefits from these features. Waste paper and wood can be recycled to produce fibrous material that can be used to manufacture paperboard boxes.

A variety of paperboard packaging categories are available. Each one of them can be used for a different purpose. The packing of medicines, cosmetic products, dairy products, juices, or frozen foods can be done by using this type of packaging.

3. Chipboard Packaging

Chipboard packaging can be categorized as a kind of paperboard, but it is very different from medium-density fibreboard packaging. Unlike MDF, chipboards are manufactured from recycled papers (not wood) mixed with resin and glue. The papers are glued to form the chipboard. It can be customized easily and is also affordable.

Chipboard is similar to paperboard, mainly because it is sustainable and made from recycled materials. Chipboards basically come in two colours, white and brown, and the strength of chipboard is determined by their density.

4. Packaging with Corrugated Boxes

The most common packaging material is corrugated cardboard. Basically, a corrugated box is used for packaging shipping storage boxes and footwear. E-commerce businesses are readily adopting this method for product packaging. It is used during shipping to protect the products from getting damaged, to attract customers by maintaining the design and structure of the product. Like paperboards, corrugated boxes are also customizable but the durability of corrugated boxes is higher than paperboards. Even if the packaging is used for both retail and shipping, this is still a cost-effective option.

5. Packaging with Plastic Boxes

Plastic is commonly used for many products, from huge spaceships to little paper clips. Plastic has already replaced many materials like glass, wood, ceramic, and many more. Plastic is also used in packaging, and it has many benefits, as they are more durable as compared to paperboard boxes, and they can be recycled. Food quality can be maintained and contamination can be eliminated by using airtight plastic packaging containers.
